You missed the point. Autumn was the only member of the Enclave who even knew about the plan, and as commander he directed the Enclave forces against the Lone Wanderer to oppose it. It wasn't the 'Enclave's' plan, it was Eden's plan. It's true it happened to serve the long term interests of what Eden believed the Enclave wanted. The Adytum, part of the Boneyard, is in Fallout 1, not Fallout 3. It is located in what used to be California, while Fallout 3 is based around the remains of Washington D.C. I like the Enclave's portrayal in Fallout 3 more than their portrayal in FO2. Perhaps that's sacrilege, but there ya go. Now this isn't to say I think Fallout 2 is bad, quite the contrary.
Where Is The Enclave Base In Fallout 3
Now just keep in mind, this is my personal opinion. Everyone always talks shit about how Fallout 3 is too morally black and white, unlike Fallout 1 and 2. But, I beg to differ.
Yes, the BoS are basically the 'good guys', and the Enclave are basically the 'bad guys' of the game. But here's the thing. The Enclave in Fallout 2, I think, are presented as FAR more mustache-twirlingly evil that their FO3 counterparts.
What is the Enclave's goal in Fallout 2? To basically commit genocide. They want to release a modified version of the FEV into the air to eradicate all 'mutants' in the Wasteland. Except to them, 'mutant' means anyone that has suffered radiation exposure. So.. pretty much everyone that doesn't live in a vault or fancy oil rig. All so they can repopulate the Wasteland with good, clean, pure-strain humans. They're literally written like future-Nazis for Todd's sake.
Anyway, in FO3 the Enclave is decidedly more diplomatic in their efforts to take over the Wasteland. Colonel Autumn wants to use Project Purity to provide clean water to Wastelanders, all to get them to rally behind the Enclave for protection and a 'plan for the future'. Sure they're still evil, what with the killing of innocent scientists and whatnot. But Autumn's Enclave, while authoritarian, is much more sympathetic than the original 'kill-em-all and start over' Enclave.
Then there's President Eden. He actually does want to go through with the Enclave original goal of genociding all the muties. And he wants to use Project Purity to do it. However, Autumn doesn't agree with him, and the two obviously don't trust each other. This all culminates in the sort-of civil war we see near the end of FO3, where Autumn and his loyal soldiers disobey Eden and fight against his robots.
So yeah. I like the Enclave's portrayal in Fallout 3 more than their portrayal in FO2. Perhaps that's sacrilege, but there ya go. Now this isn't to say I think Fallout 2 is bad, quite the contrary. But I just wanted to write this to show that, the old games aren't fucking perfect, and the new games aren't total trash, as so many people like to claim.
