The inital release was in January 2007 with several sequels published since then. It is a Sci-Fi RPG. Widely regarded as the most complete resource for Mass Effect on the web, Mass Effect Wiki contains every bit of information you could possibly want to find about this epic trilogy, including the games, books, and comics.

so WTF there are settings in the Graphics section of the Options for turning on Motion Blur and Film Grain
WTF isnt that what we dont want?
I cant stand Film Grain it is just a bunch of Noise added to the picture (in the case with film as well but nothing you can do about that), and Motion Blur WTF who would want that? It says 'add motion blur effects' WHY!?
both of these are stupid
am I missing something here? or does anyone like this?

Much like HDR, developers figured out they could do it, and so they do. No one bothered to stop and ask 'Is it a good idea to do this?'.

but HDR is a real thing, as in it is created so the dynamic range is higher and contrast so the picture actually lookes better
but Motion Blur? this is one of the main complaints of LCD owners so why add it in for anything other to make the picture look crappier
the same with Film Grain on actual film it looks OK but in this game and many other 'Film grain' effects in other places are just noise, it looks like mosquito noise. So again just to make the picture look crappier
also notice these are turned on by default, maybe because it covers up some of the imperfections in the environments and people as in the slow loading of textures as I noted in another thread

If you want to argue about 'real things':
Human vision suffers from motion blur. They are emulating it in the game. The game is also trying to be very cinematic, hence the use of a film grain effect. Helps people feel like they are watching a movie.
Focusing specificly on the film grain. I can think of two times that artificial film grain has been used with excellent results. The Silent Hill games, and Grindhouse. Grindhouse: Planet Terror was shot all-digital, yet had film grain and general film issues added to the movie. Why? To emulate the feel of sitting in a crappy movie house in the 70s. Silent Hill used film grain for a similar reason, to give you the feel of watching a horror movie.
Now looking at how 'real' HDR is...
I already have an iris, thank you very much. Why do I need a game effect to emulate how my iris is already going to respond to overly bright and/or overly dark scenes? Very rarely HDR is used to good effect in games, but most of the time it is just a bloom filled mess with massively overblown iris emulation.
I'm finding far too many effects that people are using in games right now that are put there purely for the 'Look what we can do!' factor. It seems to be a rare occurance that anyone asks themselves 'Does this look good? Does this help my game?'. This kind of stuff really shows how immature the industry really is, and how desperately they want to be like movies. Hell this kind of stuff is like if everyone was still using cheesy Star Wars style wipes in films.

I turned that crap off. I'm sorry, but it was messing up my game experience. Thank God they actually added the option to turn it off. I was about to turn the game back in to tell you the truth.

yep I thought the same thing
the motion blur wasnt that noticeable but the Film Grain just sucked
about HDR
if using HDR doesent cause blooming but actually makes the picture have more dynamic range or perceived DR then it is a good thing
if not like in the case of the game Just Cause it causes blooming problems

I guess it depends on your display. Looks great with the option on a 60' and 70' SXRD

Motion blur occurs in our every day lives. It is on regular television and is something that is desirable as it is what our vision is use to. Motion blur can smooth motion and make something that is running at a lower fps seem smoother. That is why games add it now. Film grain is film grain. This game being cinematic, adding film grain probably gives it a bit of a gritty film like quality. It doesn't bother me at all and actually looks very nice on my 65' rptv. Nice thing is you CAN TURN IT ALL OFF, so why even bother complaining?

I actually like it with the film grain and motion blur. That's how I've been playing. Something different that I haven't seen in a game before.

I bought a Plasma, so I'd have zero motion blur.
I bought a HDTV with it's overpriced connections and cables so I'd have a Clear picture to begin with and Film grain makes it look like SD on Coax. WTF were they thinking?
These two effects were horrible and got turned off right away.
And i play games because TV/Movies bore me, so I want my games to look like games and play like games.
Thankfully, we can turn it off.

Personally, I dislike the motion blur and grain - don't understand why anyone (directors) would purposely add it. I prefer my vision to be as clear as possible no matter what I'm watching and find DVD's with grain very distracting. That's probably why I try to keep my glasses clean of smudges, dust and water drops.

I found that turning motion blur off actually improved the frame rate slightly. I don't seem to be running into as many spots where the framerate dips really low with it off.
I like the film grain effect. The game is an homage to old sci-fi flicks, including the synth-style soundtracks... and the film grain effect works for me. Not distracting at all on my 720p projector. Makes me feel like I'm watching some old Buck Rogers or something!

I couldn't imagine a movie to look like a sitcom.

I understand if these are in there by default like it has to be there
but adding it is just stupid
all it means to me is they were unhappy with the graphics so they added motion blur and film grain and them turned them on by default so people wouldnt notice how crappy it looks

I will definitely try motion blur off... the frame rate in this game is noticeable bad.

The default settings is how the game was intended to be played. The fact that they even give you the option to turn it off means that they know some people might not like their artistic style. I personally like the fact that they have grain and motion blur. Feels more like a vintage sci-fi movie and I love it. You should be happy they give the Grain and Blur options because that means that they are catering to the gaming public that buys their games.

YES thats right
lets hope no one makes a game that it cant be turned off in
so yes complain before game makers look at this crap and decide not to give us a option

yea they do
I still see places where there is a dotted line sorta on parts of the environment where 2 parts come together
all games have this problem, some more than others, but still there isnt 1 min that goes by that I dont see some kinda problem with how the graphics look
I swear most of these 360 games are just regular XBOX games that got a extra coat of polish on them, it is obvious because most all games according to another thread I say about 'actual render res.' of games, most are a 4x3 ratio and most all are under 720p, so all they did was add a top layer of texture which falls off all the time and must be reloaded every couple of seconds thus the other thread I started about graphics looking good once they load
so yes I think the graphics look like crap
the guns you carry are just floating there some how hooked to you
the clothing looks like it is a flat one piece thing even in the case of the first woman you come in contact with on the ship who is talking to that guy who you take with you on the first mission, her collar looks so fake and like it is painted on there
just about the only great thing about the graphics are the faces which they spent a lot of time on and look great most of the time
this game could of been released on the XBOX and PS2 as well without the main layer of graphics added

Are developers actually afraid of perfection? How can you make such a great game, and then decide to darken the corners, and waste development on 2 useless options. I wonder if they even use them.I don't know anything about developing games; but, if they used power (for film grain, motion blur, & vignetting) that could have helped the frame rate-then that's wack. Don't waste development on goofy add-ons. You too Madden!

I don't see a single thing in this game that could not have been done on the original Xbox if it was built on UE2 instead of UE3. Of course it wouldn't have been as pretty, but the core experience could have been similar. Hell, the pop-in may have even been reduced with a HDD to cache to.
